Data Security for Authors: Protect Your Words, Business, and Readers
$0.00

February 5th – 7pm CST / 8pm EST

Your author career is a business—and your data is one of your most valuable assets. From manuscripts and ARC lists to newsletters, assistants, and online platforms, today’s authors face security risks that go far beyond spilled coffee on a laptop.

Join us for a practical, easy-to-understand seminar designed specifically for authors, where you’ll learn how to protect your creative work, secure your accounts, and safeguard your reader community. We’ll break down the critical differences between free email accounts and professional platforms like Office 365 and Google Workspace, show you how to back up your data the right way, and teach you best practices for managing assistants, beta readers, and ARC teams without putting your business at risk.

You’ll walk away with real-world strategies you can implement immediately—no tech degree required. If you rely on cloud storage, run a newsletter, work with helpers, or simply want to ensure your author business is protected, this seminar is a must-attend.

Keep your words safe. Keep your readers safe. Keep your business safe.

$30.00

May 7th – 7pm CST / 8pm EST

Your book isn’t just a file — it’s an asset. This session demystifies the rights you own, the rights you can sell, and how to make sure you keep what matters. We’ll break down:

  • Copyright essentials every author should know

  • How contracts actually work (beyond the scary legalese)

  • Key clauses to never overlook

  • When a “deal” is really a rights grab

  • Licensing vs assignment — and why it matters

  • Subsidiary rights: audio, foreign, film/TV, anthologies, and more

  • Common red flags in publishing agreements

  • When to involve an agent or IP attorney

Whether you’re indie or traditionally published, this is the “no-surprises” guide to protecting your intellectual property from day one.

Release Like a Pro: Strategic Launch Planning for New Authors
$30.00

November 19th – 7pm CST / 8pm EST

There is a right way and a wrong way to launch a book. Most first-time authors do everything backwards: they start marketing after publishing. This session flips the timeline and shows you how professionals do it.

Learn:

  • When to publish (and why timing matters)

  • Ideal pre-order timelines (by genre)

  • Building anticipation without being annoying

  • ARC timelines, platforms & expectations

  • Cover reveals that actually work

  • Using your network and community properly

  • Launch phases: tease → reveal → convert → sustain

  • What to do the week after launch

  • Mistakes new authors make that tank visibility

You’ll walk away with a reusable launch blueprint — so every book is easier than the last.
